After sharing a picture of police officers on-duty during Hurricane Irma, the Gainesville Police Department, based in Florida, has been inundated by thousands of comments about a number of its police officers caused quite the stir.
On Sunday, the police department posted a photo of Officers Nordman, Hamill and Rengering, writing “…part of the night crew getting ready to do some work. #Irma.” Little did they know what they were about to cause to happen!
Two days later, the post had received over 120,000 comments, 180,000 likes and hundreds of thousands of shares. All wanting to see more of the police officers, some demanding they release a calendar, and others asking about the relationship status of the three officers.
One fan hilariously gushed, “The hunkapotumus is a rare, elusive, and mythical creature. Here we are lucky to see 3 huddled together in the wake of Hurricane Irma. I’m a well trained hunkapotumus handler. Send them my way and they will be well taken care of. Seriously though.”
Many others echoed that the officers should do a calendar, trying to get a better glimpse at the handsome officers. Others got in on the joke, one saying, “I’m charity and I approve this message”
In response to the stir they’d caused, Gainesville police department shared the photo of another police and fire department who were also helping with the rising floodwater due to Hurricane Irma. Their post read: “Officers Raulerson, Craig, Gloeckner & Hughes responded to help our friends at the North Port Police Department & North Port Fire Department this afternoon with rescues due to rising floodwaters from Hurricane Irma,” their post read. “Gainesville Police Department has nothing on us.”
The original post was updated on Tuesday to announce that, to the disappointment of many ladies around the country (and even worldwide!), Nordman and Hamill were both married, and only Rengering was single. They’re not complaining about all the attention they’re getting though, and the hilarious comments keep on rolling in.
The Police Department also made sure to ask that people don’t call 911 and request this group to respond to their ‘incident’ in hope of seeing them in the flesh, however, lifted the mood of tens of thousands of women when they confirmed they would be doing a calendar.
The comment finishes, “Thank you all for the hilarious comments… they have brightened our time up here. As for the calendar, we are going to try and do something fairly quickly and funds raised will go to Hurricane Irma recovery here in Florida.”
After the initial whirlwind had settled a little, and to the delight of women around the world, the department began sharing photos of others officers from the area.
Many of the comments mirror the original post. Anybody else think Gainesville Police Department know exactly what they’re doing at this point? We’re not complaining.
