The paternity test results have finally arrived! In last week’s episode of Teen Mom OG, Gary finally settled in for a paternity test, since he’s been doubtful of his real, biological father.
Gary Shirley currently has 2 special women in his life, his wife, Kristina, and his ex-girlfriend, Amber Portwood. Hardcore Teen Mom fans know that Gary dated Amber first and then, later on, met Kristina. At the tender age of 18 and early into her relationship with Gary, Amber gave birth to their daughter, Leah Leann, on November 12, 2008. Shirley and Portwood were previously engaged but only for a brief amount of time.
Now, Gary is happily married to his new wife, Kristina. The couple now shares a child, Emilee.
The paternity test
Although Amber Portwood was involved in a “mini” paternity scandal too, this one wasn’t about her. Gary Shirley suspects that his real father might not be Jody, as claimed by his mother. There was no doubt in Gary’s mind, he decided to take a paternity test in order to clear himself out of doubt.
Gary’s alleged father, Jody, was sued in 2011 for not paying his child support. “On or between March 20, 1987 to April 30, 2001, Jody Patterson did knowingly fail to provide support to his dependent child: Gary L. Shirley, giving rise to unpaid child support due and owing $18,974 as of April 30, 2001,” the court papers obtained by Radar Online read.
“Jody was my mom’s boyfriend. Supposedly I was born around that time,” Gary opens up to his wife Kristina. “He’s potentially my biological father, but I want to get a paternity test to know for sure. He was never there. It’s not like he was the dad I always wanted. But I slowly let him in. It would suck if he wasn’t,” Gary revealed.
In a recent episode of Teen Mom: OG, Jody himself opened up. “I thought maybe you’re better off just with your mom instead of having me bouncing back and forth into your life, I was in jail. I done something I shouldn’t have been doing. I was in jail for almost a year. The judge let me out after you were born so I could see you,” he said.
“Gary finds out the results of the paternity test.”
“I feel like it would be a question unanswered. I forgive him for not being there and things like that. We are where we are now, he’s a part of my life. So I want him to be my dad, but ultimately I don’t know. We’ll see when the results get here,” Gary said before getting the test results.
Immediately upon opening the letter, Gary says “Jody’s not going to like that.” “Throw it away,” he added. It seems like the results came back negative, and that Jody isn’t Gary’s biological father. We’ll know for sure once the episode airs.
