Endangered Baby Birds Released At Dunes After Being Rescued By Kids

Two 11-year-old girls, Lily Alexander & Aria Alfonzo, are animal lovers & local heroes who found two Virginia Rail endangered baby birds while they were checking window wells in their neighborhood.

They took it upon themselves to routinely knock on neighbors’ doors to ask permission to check their window wells for wildlife that sometimes got trapped within the enclosures.

They have been able to rescue various animals that would have probably perished if they had not found them.

The Humane Indiana Wildlife got contacted about the discovery & they prepared to receive the chicks so that they could begin the process of rehabilitating them.

After rehabilitation, they were ready to be released & the two girls with their families were in attendance. They all watched the two chicks hop along the forest floor before taking flight into their new home.
